A Look Back at Year 27

Aug 18th 2020

For some people, a year begins in January. For us here at Door County Coffee, our years run from August to July, since we were founded then in 1993. We thought the perfect way to celebrate was by taking a look back at not just the last year around the sun, but the very best parts of the last 27.

First, let’s take a look back at some of the highlights from years 1-26! We were founded in 1993 and gained some long-time customers not so long after in 1994, many of which are still with us today, including Inn at Cedar Crossing, Woodman’s, White Lace Inn, and Dal Santos! We wouldn’t be where we are today with out these guys, that is for sure! We launched our first website in 1995, and came out with our fan-favorite Fall flavored coffees for the first time in 1998. In 2006 we added our Spring and Summer line, and added our drive-thru option to the building in 2007. With many expansions of our staff and building, we increased our size, to create the beautiful and spacious building you see today! But we had to grow the building, so we could make room for all the amazing people who work here to fit in!

A lot can be said about a company, when every person who works there, looks forward to coming in every day, and doing something they love. If you asked any employee at Door County Coffee, they would tell you the same thing. And that, coffee lovers, is what makes our 27th anniversary so special. We don’t have to tell you that this year has been….different….we all know it. But even through the trials and tribulations of 2020, Door County Coffee has continued to do what we love. In 1 year we have added 5 new coffees, launched a brand new website, gotten our product in COSTCO AND TARGET (FREAKING COSTCO YOU GUYS!!) and expanded our distribution reach, brought 5 babies into this world, had 2 weddings (including Vicki and Doug getting a new daughter-in-law!), 1 retirement and so, so much more. It has been hard, but so rewarding.

If you ask our President and Founder, Vicki Wilson, she will tell you all the same things. How luck we are to work with such wonderful people, roasting and selling a product we all love, enjoying the company of each other every single day. You can imagine how hard it was for us all to stop hugging each other when COVID-19 came out swinging!

Ironically, she and her husband Doug even rented Door County Trolleys taking all of us to a private party at a local establishment for lunch for Employee Appreciation Day in early March. This was just before quarantine began (all of us not knowing what was ahead of us!) so we look back at that now as our last big hurrah all together! They truly are remarkable people, and why Door County Coffee has had the success we have had.

Looking to the future and our next trip around the sun, we are excited for growth and new things coming soon on the horizon. Canned cold brew coffee for you, continuous updates to our online shopping and new customers, are just a few things to get excited for. Thank you for all your love and support these last 27 years, and we can’t wait to see what comes in year 28! Cheers!
