Iced Dirty (Masala) Chai

Iced Dirty (Masala) Chai

By: Linda Bonwill - World Class Cooking

Refresh yourself with this spiced iced coffee drink! Chai tea is a drink served hot or cold. It is infused with Indian spices, such as cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, star anise, etc. When you add coffee to your Chai, it is called a Dirty Chai Tea. In this recipe, I used cinnamon-flavored coffee. If you love cinnamon, you will love the extra cinnamon boost. It is a wonderful treat to serve guests. You can use any type of milk and sugar of your choice. (Chai means tea, and masala means spice)

Featured Product: Frosted Cinnamon Buns Coffee 8 oz ground

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 4 black tea bags
  • 3 slices ginger root (approx. 1 inch long)
  • 4 star anise, whole
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 2 large cinnamon sticks
  • 12 black peppercorns
  • 8 cardamom pods
  • 4-6 TBSP sugar of choice
  • 1 cup cinnamon-flavored coffee, brewe
  • 3 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups milk of choice (I used oat milk), warm
  • whipped cream for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the water in a medium-size pot. Add the tea bags, ginger, star anise, cloves, cinnamon sticks, peppercorns, and cardamom. Bring to a boil. Reduce the temperature to a simmer and stir in the sugar. Simmer for 30 mins.
  2. Stir in the coffee, vanilla, and warm milk. Cover and refrigerate to chill.

Note: I warm the milk in the microwave. This will prevent the milk or cream from curdling
